WE DON’T YET KNOW WHAT WE DON’T KNOW: 

The front page of The New York Times in December 2017 exposed a department of the pentagon that was continuing to investigate the growing numbers of ‘ufo/uap’ sightings. I tried to talk about this with as many people as I could, as I found the news, well, not exactly surprising, but nonetheless I was awe-struck that it had been reported in such a well respected outlet. But the responses I get from people when I talk about aliens, intrigue me more than the potential of alien life does itself. To me, the fact that time and space are endless, lends me to the logical conclusion that we are not alone in the universe. Many people agree, but don’t believe these life-forms could ever ‘get to’ earth. Why? How does it make sense that we must automatically be at the forefront of technology or some other kind of travel. This “unknown”-ness fascinates me. Some people within the UFO community now call the UFOs ‘advanced aerospace threat’. Threat? They haven’t come down and caused more pain or suffering than we have? Have they? Maybe they have. But the idea that when confronted with an unknown, that many of our minds roll either to the side of ‘threat’ or ‘denial’ says something about how we digest or if at all we can digest anything ‘unknown’. So how do we make space for what we don’t know we don’t know in our minds, so that our reaction to it, when and if it comes (not just in the form of alien life or spectacular physic-defying technology – but in human emotion, in our own selves, in the world we have created) could be more accepting, curious, loving or gentle?
